Predoctoral Researcher - Computational Enzyme Design for Glycoengineering
Join a PhD project on computational glycobiology and enzyme design using artificial intelligence and molecular modeling.
Best for:Best for master's graduates in biophysics or computational biology with a strong background in molecular modeling and structural bioinformatics.
Overview
The Biological Chemistry and Biotechnology Group at IQS, Universitat Ramon Llull in Barcelona invites applications for a PhD position focusing on computational enzyme design for glycoengineering. The research aims to uncover and reprogram the molecular principles governing protein-carbohydrate interactions and enzyme catalysis through structural bioinformatics, molecular dynamics, and artificial intelligence. The successful candidate will model enzyme-substrate interactions, expand computational protocols for protein engineering, and collaborate with experimental teams. Candidates will be supported in securing competitive PhD fellowships such as FI, FPU, or internal IQS grants.
What you'll do
- Model enzyme-substrate interactions and investigate underlying catalytic mechanisms using computational tools
- Expand and apply the BINDSCAN protocol for computer-assisted protein engineering
- Design improved or novel biocatalysts with biomedical and biotechnological applications
- Collaborate closely with experimental research groups to validate computational predictions
