Master of Science in Chemical Engineering – Sustainable Chemical Technologies
A research-oriented master’s programme focusing on sustainable chemical processes and green technologies at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg.
Best for:Best for engineers and scientists with a bachelor’s in chemical engineering or related fields, interested in sustainable chemical processes, green technologies, and interdisciplinary research.
Overview
This Master of Science programme in Chemical Engineering at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) specialises in sustainable chemical technologies, integrating advanced process engineering with green chemistry and renewable resources. Students explore topics like life cycle assessment, green catalysis, and energy-efficient processes while tailoring their studies through elective specialisations such as fluid mechanics, reaction engineering, or technical thermodynamics. The curriculum includes hands-on projects, a mandatory 12-week industrial internship, and a thesis project, ensuring practical and theoretical expertise in sustainable chemical conversion. The programme is taught bilingually in German and English, with flexibility for exams and theses in either language. It is ideal for engineers and scientists seeking to advance sustainable industrial practices.
What you'll do
- Develop advanced knowledge in process engineering with a focus on sustainability, including process synthesis, intensification, and life cycle assessment.
- Choose two specialisations from available options such as fluid mechanics, mechanical process engineering, reaction engineering, or separation science.
- Complete a 12-week industrial internship to gain practical experience in the chemical engineering industry.
- Conduct research and write a master’s thesis on a topic related to sustainable chemical technologies.
- Participate in research-oriented projects, often in collaboration with international partners.
- Engage in elective modules covering current topics like chemical energy storage, clean combustion technology, and environmental process engineering.
