Doctoral Position in Experimental Ultrafast Optics and Photonics
Explore time-varying electromagnetic media and photonic time crystals at ETH Zurich.
Best for:Best for physics or electrical engineering master's graduates with a strong interest in experimental optics and programming experience.
Overview
The Ultrafast Dynamics Group at ETH Zurich invites applications for a 4-year doctoral position focusing on experimental ultrafast optics and photonics. Operating within an interdisciplinary collaborative grant, the researcher will investigate time interfaces, time reflection, and photonic time crystals using advanced optical pump-probe spectroscopy and terahertz techniques. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in establishing a brand-new experimental platform from the ground up, working alongside leading researchers in physics and engineering. Expected duties encompass experimental design, optical instrumentation development, numerical modeling, and collaborative teamwork.
What you'll do
- Develop and execute novel ultrafast optical pump-probe experiments to investigate time-varying electromagnetic media.
- Generate and perform phase-resolved detection of broadband terahertz pulses.
- Characterize subwavelength terahertz waveguides in close coordination with project collaborators.
- Design and construct advanced optical instrumentation and measurement methodologies.
- Perform comprehensive data analysis and numerical modeling of experimental results.
- Engage in active cross-group collaboration across participating research teams at ETH Zurich.
