Associate Scientist - Eislmayr Laboratory
Lead the scientific and operational wet-lab program for a newly established laboratory studying host-pathogen interactions.
Best for:Best for experienced research scientists with strong wet-lab microbiology and lab management skills looking to build a research program from the ground up.
Overview
St Jude Children's Research Hospital is seeking an Associate Scientist to help build and lead the wet-lab operations for the newly established Eislmayr Laboratory under the direction of Dr. Kevin Eislmayr. The laboratory investigates host-pathogen interactions during Shigella infection, focusing on how epithelial-immune crosstalk shapes gut barrier defense. The successful candidate will combine hands-on molecular biology, microbiology, and mammalian cell culture expertise with laboratory management responsibilities, including equipment setup, safety compliance, and personnel training. This is a foundational role offering the opportunity to shape the research direction, culture, and infrastructure of a growing research program.

- Manage the setup of the new laboratory, including equipment procurement, installation, commissioning, and inventory control.
- Perform advanced molecular biology, biochemical, and fluorescence microscopy techniques.
- Conduct in vitro and in vivo infection experiments and maintain rigorous research documentation.
- Ensure full compliance with BSL-2 operations, institutional safety regulations, SOPs, and training records.
- Train, mentor, and supervise junior laboratory personnel and students as the team expands.
