Instructor - Computational & Systems Immunology
Join a multidisciplinary team at Emory University to bridge computational biology and virology for next-generation antiviral therapy development.
Best for:Experienced computational biologists or immunologists with a strong background in multi-omics integration and translational research.
Overview
The Laboratory of Biochemical Pharmacology (LOBP) and the Center for ViroScience and Cure at Emory University are seeking an Instructor to lead translational research at the intersection of computational biology and virology. The successful candidate will integrate multi-omics data to identify novel therapeutic targets and biomarkers for viral infections and chronic inflammatory diseases. This role involves driving independent research projects, collaborating with a diverse team of scientists, and mentoring junior researchers. Applicants are expected to contribute to high-impact publications and actively pursue external grant funding to advance their scientific independence.
What you'll do
- Lead translational research projects applying computational systems biology to characterize immune cell states in viral infections.
- Utilize high-dimensional molecular data to discover and prioritize novel therapeutic targets for antiviral and immunomodulatory drug development.
- Collaborate with virologists, medicinal chemists, and clinicians to translate biological hypotheses into computational frameworks.
- Mentor and train graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and research staff in bioinformatics and reproducible research practices.
- Prepare manuscripts for high-impact journals and contribute to grant applications.
- Represent the laboratory at national and international conferences to build collaborative networks.
- Write and submit independent grant proposals to transition toward greater scientific independence.
Requirements
Degree required: PhD in Bioinformatics, Biomedical Sciences, Computational Biology, Immunology, or a closely related field.
Language: English
Instruction: English
Publications: Strong publication record in computational immunology, integrative multi-omics, or translational bioinformatics.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience as a postdoctoral fellow or research scientist.
- Proven expertise in analyzing and integrating high-dimensional datasets such as single-cell RNA-seq, proteomics, and metabolomics.
- Proficiency in R and Python programming languages.
- Experience with bioinformatics tools for differential expression, pathway enrichment, and network analysis.
- Experience in protein purification and characterization.
- Strong publication record in computational immunology or translational bioinformatics.
- Must be able to perform tasks in-person at an Emory University location.
