Doctoral Researcher in Translational Neuroscience
Join a dynamic team at the University of Luxembourg to develop precision therapeutic approaches for Parkinson's disease using iPSC-derived models.
Best for:Best for candidates with a strong background in experimental cellular neuroscience and hands-on experience in iPSC culture and molecular biology.
Overview
The University of Luxembourg is seeking a motivated PhD student to join the Translational Neuroscience team led by Prof. Rejko Krüger. This position focuses on GBA1-associated Parkinson's disease, utilizing patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to create neuronal models and midbrain organoids. The successful candidate will validate small-molecule compounds to rescue disease-associated phenotypes, contributing to the development of precision medicine. The role involves an interdisciplinary approach, bridging fundamental laboratory research with clinical applications in collaboration with the National Centre for Excellence in Research on Parkinson's Disease.
What you'll do
- Generate iPSCs from patient-donated fibroblasts.
- Differentiate iPSCs into midbrain dopaminergic neurons and organoids for phenotyping and compound testing.
- Perform high-content imaging and automated image analysis.
- Analyze complex omics data.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of computational biologists, neuroscientists, and clinicians.
- Prepare research manuscripts and reports.
- Present findings at national and international scientific conferences.
Requirements
Degree required: Master's degree in biology, neuroscience, pharmacology, or a related field.
Degree offered: PhD
Language: English; B2-level proficiency required.
Instruction: English
- Strong background in experimental cellular neuroscience.
- Solid experience in cell culture and molecular biology.
- Programming skills in R and/or Python.
