PhD Studentship: Advancing Bayesian Machine Learning for Type 2 Diabetes
Develop advanced Bayesian and machine learning models for precision medicine in diabetes using large-scale healthcare data.
Best for:Best for quantitative graduates with a strong background in machine learning, statistics, and an interest in health data science.
Overview
The University of Exeter invites applications for a four-year MRC-funded PhD studentship through the GW4 BioMed3 Doctoral Landscape Programme, starting in October 2027. The project focuses on leveraging modern Bayesian statistics and machine learning methodologies to address key challenges in analyzing large-scale observational electronic health records. The successful candidate will apply these computational models to optimize treatment selection for Type 2 diabetes within a precision medicine framework. The researcher will benefit from structured research training and collaborative network opportunities across the GW4 partnership.
What you'll do
- Design and implement advanced Bayesian statistical and machine learning models tailored for large-scale healthcare datasets.
- Process, clean, and analyze complex observational electronic health record data to uncover heterogeneous treatment effects.
- Collaborate with clinical and academic researchers to apply developed models to real-world diabetes treatment selection problems.
- Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed journal publications and presentations at national and international conferences.
- Participate fully in the mandatory training activities and cohort events provided by the GW4 BioMed3 Doctoral Landscape Programme.
