Graduate Assistantship (PhD/MS) in Spatial Hydrology or Riverscape Assessment
Pursue graduate research in spatial hydrology, watershed science, or riverscape assessment at Texas State University.
Best for:Best for prospective graduate students with a quantitative background in geosciences, hydrology, or environmental engineering interested in spatial water science.
Overview
Texas State University's Department of Geography and Environmental Studies is offering graduate assistantship positions for prospective PhD or master's students starting in Fall 2027. Under the supervision of Dr. Konrad Hafen, students will investigate how river systems, watersheds, and aquatic habitats function across various scales while developing independent thesis or dissertation projects. Research themes encompass high-resolution riverscape mapping, spatial hydrologic modeling using GIS and machine learning, and catchment characterization. Selected candidates will receive financial support through departmental teaching or research assistantships, with doctoral students also benefiting from a multi-year tuition scholarship.
What you'll do
- Conduct independent and collaborative graduate research in spatial hydrology or riverscape assessment.
- Develop and execute original thesis or dissertation research projects aligned with departmental themes.
- Utilize GIS, remote sensing, and high-resolution digital modeling tools for landscape and river network analysis.
- Integrate climate datasets, machine learning, or physical modeling to evaluate watershed runoff and streamflow.
- Contribute to departmental teaching or research duties as part of the assistantship appointment.
