PhD Researcher: Sustainable Power Electronics and Circularity Tools
Develop eco-design tools and circularity indicators for power electronics modules in a collaborative research project.
Best for:Best for electrical engineering PhD candidates with expertise in power electronics, packaging, and lifecycle assessment, passionate about sustainability and circular economy principles.
Overview
This PhD position is part of the PEPR GREENPOWER project, aiming to advance sustainable power electronics by designing tools and methods to enhance circularity in power modules. The research will be conducted jointly by the LGP (Tarbes) and G2Elab (Grenoble), with supervision from JC. Crebier (CNRS-G2Elab) and G. Vine (LGP). The candidate will spend the first 18 months in Grenoble and the last 18 months in Tarbes, focusing on developing circularity indicators, data collection methods, and lifecycle assessment tools for power electronics. The project integrates interdisciplinary collaboration with CEA-leti researchers and emphasizes real-world applicability in sustainable energy systems.
What you'll do
- Develop circularity and reparability indicators for power electronics modules, focusing on their entire lifecycle.
- Design and implement data collection methods to support these indicators, leveraging existing tools and potentially developing new diagnostic approaches.
- Create an economic and market-based tool (e.g., a price index) to guide decision-making for end-of-life management of power modules.
- Develop lifecycle assessment (LCA) scenarios and inventories for end-of-life management strategies, integrating circularity principles into existing LCA tools.
- Conduct an international survey to understand stakeholder perceptions of circularity principles (e.g., reuse, repair, recycling) in power electronics.
- Collaborate with researchers from CEA-leti and other project partners to integrate findings into broader sustainable power electronics initiatives.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at international conferences.
