PhD Position in EU Doctoral Network PANDORA for AMD Research
Investigate age-related macular degeneration using advanced multimodal microscopic imaging in an EU-funded doctoral network.
Best for:Best for master's graduates in biomedical or health sciences with a strong background in optical imaging, microscopy, and image data analysis.
Overview
The Foundation for Research and Technology (FORTH) invites applications for a fully-funded PhD position focusing on defining molecular biomarkers of complement-mediated age-related macular degeneration (AMD) through multimodal imaging. Operating within the MSCA Doctoral Network PANDORA, the researcher will be based at the Laboratory for Biophotonics and Molecular Imaging in Heraklion, Greece. The candidate will utilize a novel hybrid microscope combining optoacoustic, two-photon excitation fluorescence, second harmonic generation, and coherent Raman microscopy to study retinal organoids and disease models. Responsibilities include protocol development, biomarker database management, quantitative image analysis, and participation in international secondments and training events.
What you'll do
- Develop and optimize experimental protocols and guidelines for multimodal imaging procedures in retinal explants and organoids.
- Build and maintain a comprehensive database of AMD-related biomarkers detectable via multimodality microscopy.
- Execute imaging procedures on retinal tissue models using the hybrid multimodal microscope system.
- Perform quantitative image processing, data analysis, and biological interpretation of complex multimodal datasets.
- Examine correlations between imaging biomarkers, multiomics data, and therapeutic delivery responses.
- Investigate drug delivery efficiency, biodistribution, and therapeutic efficacy using advanced imaging techniques.
- Contribute to peer-reviewed scientific publications, conference presentations, network workshops, and research secondments.
