Post-Doctoral Position in Biomass Characterization and Enzymatic Action
Investigate structural changes in vegetal fibers by combining chemistry and enzymatic action for sustainable biomass conversion.
Best for:Best for recent PhD graduates in Chemistry or Biochemistry with expertise in lignocellulosic biomass and polymer characterization.
Overview
This 18-month postdoctoral position is offered by INRAE in Nantes, France, as part of the SmartCoupling project funded by PEPR B-Best. The successful candidate will investigate how structural patterns in lignocellulosic biomass influence its deconstruction by enzymes, chemical treatments, and mechanical methods. The project seeks to develop sustainable tools for biomass fractionation into cellulose micro and nanofibers. The researcher will work closely with the BIA research unit and contribute to building a comprehensive database on biomass features and treatment synergies.
What you'll do
- Characterize diverse lignocellulosic biomasses using approaches such as composition analysis, morphology assessment, and chemical reactivity tests.
- Apply enzymatic, chemical, and mechanical treatments to biomass samples to evaluate structural modifications.
- Assess synergies between different treatment modalities to improve biomass fractionation efficiency.
- Contribute data to an expanding database detailing biomass structural features and behavior.
- Collaborate with project partners to advance the production of cellulose micro and nanofibers.
Requirements
Degree required: PhD in Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field
Language: English or French proficiency for working in a research environment
Instruction: English / French
- Solid background in chemistry, physical chemistry, or biochemistry
- Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and ability to work effectively in a team
- Experience with common characterization techniques in physics and nanotechnology such as FTIR, UV-vis spectroscopy, NMR, or elemental analysis
