Overview
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Arizona College of Medicine is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to support translational and regenerative medicine projects. The successful candidate will investigate cellular mechanisms of musculoskeletal trauma healing and evaluate repurposed FDA-approved drugs using in vivo animal models and cell culture techniques. Responsibilities include conducting molecular and histological analyses, managing animal procedures, and contributing to peer-reviewed publications and grant applications. This full-time position offers comprehensive benefits within an active and collaborative academic research environment.
What you'll do
- Perform in vivo research activities with mice including functional testing, drug dosing, blood collection, and tissue harvesting.
- Conduct microtome and cryotome sectioning, immunohistochemistry, and histological staining and imaging.
- Perform molecular assays such as RT-PCR, Western blotting, and ELISA using harvested tissue samples.
- Execute in vitro and ex vivo cell culture experiments, including cell isolation, characterization, proliferation assays, and scratch tests.
- Investigate the therapeutic efficacy of FDA-approved compounds for musculoskeletal tissue regeneration and trauma recovery.
- Assist with or perform surgical procedures related to skin trauma, bone fractures, and muscle denervation models.
- Maintain animal colonies through genotyping and breeding to support knockout studies.
