Research Associate in Neurodegenerative Disease and Metabolic Pathways
Collaborative postdoctoral role at the University of Cambridge to explore metabolic interventions for brain repair in multiple sclerosis.
Best for:Best for postdoctoral researchers with a PhD in neuroscience or a related field, strong in vivo rodent experience, and proficiency in stereotaxic surgery, electrophysiology, or imaging techniques.
Overview
This Research Associate position at the University of Cambridge bridges neuroscience and metabolic science to investigate how targeting incretin receptor agonists can promote remyelination and brain repair in progressive multiple sclerosis. Based across the labs of Professor Clémence Blouet (Institute of Metabolic Science) and Professor Ragnhildur Thóra Káradóttir (Cambridge Stem Cell Institute), the role involves cutting-edge techniques like stereotaxic surgery, in vivo electrophysiology, single-nucleus transcriptomics, and pharmacological interventions. The project leverages state-of-the-art facilities across the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, offering a unique translational research environment. Ideal candidates will combine expertise in neuroscience with hands-on experience in rodent models and advanced imaging/histology methods.
What you'll do
- Conduct in vivo experiments using focal demyelinating lesion models and stereotaxic surgery to study brain repair mechanisms.
- Perform pharmacological interventions targeting incretin receptor agonists and assess their effects on remyelination.
- Record and analyze neuronal activity in vivo using electrophysiological techniques.
- Carry out histology and advanced imaging to visualize cellular and molecular changes in brain tissue.
- Execute single-nucleus transcriptomics to investigate gene expression profiles related to remyelination.
- Collaborate across labs to integrate findings from metabolic and neuroscience perspectives.
- Organize and document experimental data, ensuring reproducibility and adherence to ethical guidelines.
- Present research findings at internal lab meetings and external conferences as required.
