Post-doctoral Fellow in LNP-assisted Gene-Editing for Neurodegeneration
Join a leading nanomedicine lab to develop innovative CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing therapies for ALS and FTD.
Best for:Best for researchers with a strong background in gene editing, nanoparticle formulation, and in vivo neurodegeneration models.
Overview
The JC STEM Lab of Nanomedicine for Advanced Therapy at The University of Hong Kong is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to advance non-viral gene therapy research. The project focuses on developing lipid nanoparticle (LNP)-based CRISPR-Cas9 platforms to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). The successful candidate will design gene knockout strategies, optimize LNP formulations, and conduct in vivo disease modeling to evaluate therapeutic efficacy. This role offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment that integrates molecular biology, pharmacology, and computational systems analysis.
What you'll do
- Design and evaluate CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing strategies for single and dual gene knockout in disease models.
- Formulate, characterize, and optimize lipid nanoparticles for gene editing payload delivery.
- Execute in vivo animal studies, including therapeutic administration and disease progression monitoring.
- Perform behavioral and phenotypic assessments in mouse models to determine therapeutic efficacy.
- Conduct molecular analyses including western blotting and immunohistochemistry to quantify protein knockout.
- Support transcriptomic studies and contribute to computational modeling of molecular data.
- Collaborate internationally, prepare research reports, and contribute to grant and manuscript writing.
- Supervise students and disseminate research findings through publications and conferences.
Requirements
Degree required: PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Neuroscience, Bioengineering, or a related field.
Language: Excellent command of written and spoken English.
Instruction: English
Publications: Demonstrated experience in scientific writing and publication.
- Hands-on expertise in CRISPR-Cas gene editing and guide RNA design.
- Proven experience in LNP formulation, characterization, and nucleic acid encapsulation.
- Strong background in cellular and molecular biology techniques such as western blotting and immunohistochemistry.
- Demonstrated track record in scientific writing and peer-reviewed publication.
- Ability to manage research programs independently and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
