PhD - Quantum Error Correction Codes for Cat Qubits
Develop advanced quantum error correction codes for cat qubits in a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network.
Best for:Best for graduate students in physics or quantum engineering with a strong background in quantum error correction and Python programming.
Overview
This 36-month PhD position is part of the QuBriC European MSCA Doctoral Network, hosted by Alice & Bob SAS in Paris and leading to a doctoral degree from Sorbonne Université. The project focuses on designing high-rate, biased-noise-adapted quantum error correction codes and logical-gate protocols specifically tailored for Schrödinger cat qubits. The successful candidate will co-design logical operations, validate designs through hardware-in-the-loop simulations and small-scale experiments, and participate in international secondments. The researcher will be expected to contribute to open-source libraries, publish findings in top-tier venues, and actively participate in the network training programme.
What you'll do
- Develop and benchmark high-rate, biased-noise-adapted quantum error correction codes and logical-gate protocols using lifted-product and asymmetric-distance constructions.
- Co-design logical operations incorporating noise bias, connectivity, and measurement constraints.
- Validate code designs through hardware-in-the-loop simulations and small-scale cat-qubit experiments to quantify space-time efficiency.
- Contribute to an open online library of high-rate codes and logical protocols for biased-noise qubits.
- Publish research findings in leading scientific journals and present results at international conferences.
- Complete the QuBriC doctoral training programme, Sorbonne Université coursework, and internal company training.
- Carry out academic secondments at partner institutions including Inria, TU Delft, and the University of Navarra.
