Master of Science in Geodesy and Geoinformatics (Specialisation: Hydrography)
Specialised two-year Master’s programme in hydrography, combining ocean, coastal, and inland water data science for navigation, engineering, and environmental protection.
Best for:Best for graduates in geodesy, surveying, or related fields seeking a specialised Master’s in hydrography with hands-on fieldwork and advanced geospatial technologies.
Overview
The HafenCity University Hamburg offers a unique Master of Science in Geodesy and Geoinformatics with a specialisation in Hydrography, the only Category A accredited programme of its kind in Germany. This programme focuses on collecting, analysing, modelling, and visualising aquatic data to ensure maritime safety, support coastal engineering, and protect marine ecosystems. Students engage in advanced geospatial technologies, fieldwork, and interdisciplinary projects, including transdisciplinary Q-Studies. The curriculum integrates practical training and modern tools like digital hydrographic information systems and nautical charting, preparing graduates for careers in navigation, environmental monitoring, and georesource management.
What you'll do
- Collect, analyse, and model data from oceans, coasts, and inland waters using advanced geospatial technologies.
- Develop and visualise digital hydrographic information systems for navigation and environmental applications.
- Conduct supervised fieldwork and practical exercises to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings.
- Engage in interdisciplinary projects, including Q-Studies, to integrate social and natural sciences perspectives.
- Collaborate on research projects focused on marine safety, coastal zone management, and ecosystem protection.
- Apply modern surveying and mapping techniques to support engineering, georesource management, and environmental planning.
