PhD Fellowship in Biomolecular Native Mass Spectrometry
Advance protein characterization and therapeutic discovery using cutting-edge single-molecule native mass spectrometry.
Best for:Best for master's graduates in chemistry, biochemistry, or biophysics with a strong interest in analytical instrumentation and protein structure.
Overview
The Department of Pharmacy at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for a three-year PhD fellowship in biomolecular native mass spectrometry, starting January 1, 2027. Working within the Protein Analysis Group under the supervision of Assistant Professor Victor Yin, the successful candidate will develop and apply novel single-molecule mass spectrometry techniques to investigate complex biomolecular assemblies like antibodies and vaccines. This role is part of a larger European Research Council (ERC Starting Grant) project aimed at pushing the boundaries of structural protein analysis. The candidate will engage in independent research, complete coursework, participate in external research stays, and undertake teaching duties. This position provides access to state-of-the-art mass spectrometry instrumentation within a dynamic international environment.
What you'll do
- Conduct an independent research project focused on single-molecule native mass spectrometry under faculty supervision
- Develop and apply novel analytical techniques to study proteins, antibodies, and protein-based vaccines
- Complete approximately 30 ECTS points worth of PhD courses and equivalent educational components
- Participate in active research environments, including a planned research stay with an external team
- Gain teaching experience and actively disseminate scientific knowledge and project outcomes
- Write and defend a comprehensive PhD thesis based on the generated research findings
Requirements
