MSc in Physics
A flexible, research-rich master’s programme in physics at Germany’s renowned Göttingen University, with access to Max Planck Institutes.
Best for:Best for physics graduates seeking a rigorous, research-oriented master’s programme with exposure to cutting-edge facilities and interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities.
Overview
The University of Göttingen’s MSc in Physics offers a broad, internationally recognised curriculum with specialised tracks in astro-geophysics, biophysics, solid-state physics, nuclear/particle physics, and theoretical physics. Students benefit from a highly flexible course structure, including advanced lectures, seminars, and hands-on research through internships or lab courses. The programme integrates a thesis phase in the second year, allowing students to collaborate closely with research groups at Göttingen’s institutes and Max Planck Institutes. The programme emphasises interdisciplinary collaboration, state-of-the-art facilities, and a supportive academic community with a strong student-teacher ratio.
What you'll do
- Attend advanced lectures and seminars in your chosen physics specialisation (astro-geophysics, biophysics, solid-state physics, nuclear/particle physics, or theoretical physics).
- Complete at least two seminars and choose between advanced lab courses, computational physics, or an internship in a research group or external institution.
- Conduct a thesis project in the second year, working closely with a research group at Göttingen University or a Max Planck Institute.
- Participate in methodical courses (e.g., main research lab course) to prepare for thesis research.
- Engage in research networking activities, including conference participation, to enhance interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Develop subsidiary skills through language courses or additional mathematical/natural sciences modules.
- Collaborate with international guest lecturers and engage in intercultural training as part of the programme.
