Doctoral Researcher in Water Engineering and Monitoring
Investigate PFAS removal and hospital wastewater treatment as part of a European research initiative.
Best for:Best for engineering graduates with strong laboratory skills and an interest in environmental water treatment technologies.
Overview
The University of Luxembourg invites applications for a 3-year doctoral researcher position within the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine. Operating under the European PFAROS initiative, the project focuses on evaluating hospital wastewater contributions to PFAS pollution, deploying functionalized membranes for PFAS concentration, and testing advanced destruction technologies. The successful candidate will conduct laboratory-scale and full-scale trials, examine large datasets, and disseminate findings through technical reports and scientific publications. Applicants are expected to hold a relevant master's degree in engineering and engage actively with doctoral school training.
What you'll do
- Conduct laboratory-scale and full-scale experimental trials under real-world conditions to investigate PFAS presence and treatment in hospital wastewater
- Evaluate the effectiveness of functionalized membranes in concentrating PFAS and reducing their levels in wastewater streams
- Assess suitable technologies for the destruction of concentrated PFAS compounds
- Examine large experimental datasets and interpret analytical results
- Contribute to technical reports, conference presentations, seminars, and peer-reviewed scientific articles
- Participate in doctoral school courses, network training, and limited educational activities
Requirements
Degree required: Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or an equivalent engineering degree
