Overview

This PhD position focuses on the cell-based characterization of intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) that bind to β-catenin. Conducted at the Technical University of Vienna in collaboration with the Medical University of Graz, the project aims to elucidate the functional consequences of these interactions and their implications for transcriptional regulation. The successful candidate will engage in interdisciplinary research, combining cell biology and molecular techniques to investigate the role of β-catenin in transcriptional condensates. Applicants should be motivated and possess a strong background in relevant biological sciences.

What you'll do

  • Characterize the interactions between novel IDRs and β-catenin in cellular models.
  • Investigate the functional consequences of β-catenin-mediated regulation of IDR-containing proteins.
  • Explore how β-catenin inhibitors affect transcriptional condensate formation and gene transcription.
  • Conduct experiments involving mammalian cell culture and molecular cloning.
  • Utilize fluorescence microscopy and protein–protein interaction studies.
  • Analyze gene expression and perform advanced imaging techniques.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and participate in international secondments.
