PhD Researcher: Error-Correcting Codes for Quantum State Distillation
Develop novel algebraic codes to improve quantum state distillation efficiency for reliable magic state preparation.
Best for:Best for theoretical computer scientists or applied mathematicians with a strong background in coding theory, quantum information, or algebraic structures, seeking to contribute to foundational quantum computing research.
Overview
This PhD position at Inria’s COSMIQ team in Paris focuses on advancing quantum error correction by designing new algebraic code families for quantum state distillation. The project, supported by ANR funding, aims to reduce overhead costs for preparing reliable magic states by leveraging non-binary constructions and polar code decoding. The successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge research under the supervision of Dr. Jean-Pierre Tillich, contributing to both theoretical advancements and potential applications in quantum computing. The role includes optional teaching duties and offers a collaborative environment within Inria’s broader quantum and cryptographic research initiatives.
What you'll do
- Conduct original research to design novel algebraic code families for quantum state distillation, targeting reduced overhead in magic state preparation.
- Develop theoretical models and mathematical frameworks for error correction in quantum systems, focusing on non-binary and polar code constructions.
- Implement and simulate proposed codes to validate their performance in quantum error correction scenarios.
- Collaborate with the COSMIQ team and broader Inria quantum research community to integrate findings into larger projects.
- Optionally contribute to teaching activities, such as supervising student projects or delivering lectures, if desired.
- Publish research findings in high-impact academic journals and conferences within the field of quantum computing and error correction.
