MSCA Doctoral Researcher in Machine Learning-Assisted Structured Light Generation in Optical Fibers
Develop AI-driven high-power structured light sources in multimode optical fibers for imaging, sensing, and industrial applications.
Best for:Best for researchers with a strong background in photonics, optics, or laser physics, hands-on experimental experience, and proficiency in Python/MATLAB for AI-driven optical data analysis.
Overview
This MSCA-funded PhD position at Tampere University focuses on advancing structured light generation using machine learning to control complex light dynamics in multimode optical fibers. As part of the HiPOVor doctoral network, the successful candidate will collaborate across Europe, combining experimental photonics, ultrafast optics, and AI to create programmable light sources. The project aims to deliver novel methods for dynamically tunable beam shapes, spectra, and temporal behaviors, with applications in imaging, laser processing, and industrial inspection. The role includes secondments at the University of Warsaw and University of Stuttgart, along with dissemination responsibilities for the network.
What you'll do
- Develop high-power broadband structured-light sources using multimode optical fibers.
- Apply machine learning techniques to tune spatial, spectral, and temporal properties of light dynamically.
- Conduct experimental photonics research combining nonlinear optics, ultrafast photonics, and AI.
- Collaborate with international partners during secondments at the University of Warsaw and University of Stuttgart.
- Promote the HiPOVor network through social media, project websites, and outreach activities.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary training at the interface of advanced photonics and structured light technologies.
