Overview

This PhD position at Oslo Metropolitan University focuses on developing quantum algorithms for optimization tasks on noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) platforms. The project, embedded within the Norwegian Quantum Software Centre (NorQSoft) and OsloMet Quantum Hub, aims to investigate how optimization and data analysis can be effectively executed on existing gate-based NISQ devices despite hardware limitations like decoherence and gate imperfections. The successful candidate will collaborate with supervisors at OsloMet, Simula Research Laboratory, and other NorQSoft members, combining cloud-based quantum computation and classical simulations to evaluate and refine approaches. The goal is to establish design principles for leveraging current NISQ devices for practical applications, particularly in regimes where conventional variational circuits are unreliable. The position offers a 3-year full-time research commitment or a 4-year hybrid model with additional career development opportunities.
