Master of Science in Bioinformatics
A four‑semester, full‑time MSc that combines computer science, mathematics, and life sciences for advanced bioinformatics training.
Best for:Best for students with a strong background in computer science, mathematics, and life sciences seeking advanced bioinformatics training.
Overview
The Master of Science in Bioinformatics is offered jointly by Freie Universität Berlin, Charité – Universitätsmedizin and several research institutes. It is a full‑time, four‑semester programme taught in English and starts each winter semester. Students receive in‑depth theoretical courses and applied training across three focus areas: Complex Systems, Data Science, and Advanced Algorithms. The curriculum includes core modules, a research internship, ethics training, and a master’s thesis with a public colloquium. Graduates are expected to master computational methods for biological data and be able to develop and evaluate algorithms in a biomedical context.
