Fully-funded PhD Studentship: Innate-Adaptive Immune Interactions in Cancer Evolution
Investigate how tissue-resident immune cells influence cancer evolution and early tumour progression at the University of Cambridge.
Best for:Best for life science graduates with strong backgrounds in immunology, cell biology, and an interest in computational cancer biology.
Overview
This fully-funded PhD studentship at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute investigates the complex interactions between tissue-resident immune cells and pre-cancerous lesions. Supervised by Dr Tim Halim, the researcher will explore the role of innate lymphoid cells and other immune components across multiple cancer models. The project combines advanced wet-lab immunological methods with computational spatial transcriptomics and in vivo modeling. The successful candidate is expected to generate robust hypotheses, execute complex laboratory assays, and contribute to discovering novel immunotherapeutic interventions.
What you'll do
- Manage and execute complex wet-lab immunological assays including high-parameter flow cytometry and multiplex imaging.
- Process human and murine tissue samples using established laboratory pipelines.
- Perform in silico analysis of single-cell, bulk, and spatial transcriptomic datasets with guidance from core facilities and collaborators.
- Generate and test scientific hypotheses using in vitro assays and in vivo disease models.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members across the institute to evaluate patient-derived material and biological mechanisms.
