Predoctoral Researcher in Engineered AAV Vectors for Polycystic Kidney Disease Gene Therapy
Join the Renal Gene Therapy group to develop advanced AAV vectors for treating polycystic kidney disease through gene therapy.
Best for:Best for motivated predoctoral researchers with a background in biomedical sciences, gene therapy, or molecular biology seeking hands-on experience in translational research for rare diseases.
Overview
This predoctoral researcher position is offered within the Renal Gene Therapy group, part of the Gene Therapy for Rare Diseases program at Fundación para la Investigación Médica Aplicada in Spain. The project focuses on engineering adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors to adapt gene therapy treatments for polycystic kidney disease, addressing disease progression. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge biomedical research, working under the supervision of Dr. Rafael Aldabe. The role involves hands-on laboratory work, experimental design, and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team. Applicants should have a strong background in biomedical sciences or related fields and a passion for translational research.
What you'll do
- Design and develop engineered AAV vectors for targeted gene therapy in polycystic kidney disease models.
- Conduct in vitro and in vivo experiments to evaluate the efficacy and safety of AAV vector constructs.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data to assess the therapeutic potential of gene therapy approaches.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members, including molecular biologists, geneticists, and clinicians.
- Prepare scientific reports, presentations, and publications based on research findings.
- Maintain detailed laboratory records and ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory standards.
Requirements
Degree required: Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or a related field.
Degree offered: PhD
Language: English; proficiency required for scientific communication and collaboration.
Instruction: English
- Hands-on experience in molecular cloning and recombinant DNA techniques.
- Familiarity with AAV vector production and purification methods.
- Experience with cell culture techniques and animal models for gene therapy studies.
- Proficient in molecular biology laboratory techniques (PCR, gel electrophoresis, etc.).
- Strong background in gene therapy or related biomedical research.
- Open to EU and non-EU candidates (check for specific visa/residency requirements).
- No age restrictions, but typically suited for early-career researchers.
- No prior experience caps, but relevant research experience is advantageous.
