Postdoctoral Research Associate in Systems Immunology
Join the Woodfolk Laboratory at the University of Virginia to investigate human immune responses using high-dimensional profiling and computational biology.
Best for:Best for computational biologists and immunologists with expertise in high-dimensional flow cytometry, single-cell transcriptomics, and systems-level data analysis.
Overview
The Woodfolk Laboratory within the Department of Medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate specializing in systems immunology and computational biology. The research program focuses on human immune responses to allergens and respiratory viruses, exploring mechanisms behind asthma, food allergies, and chronic lung conditions. The successful candidate will work at the intersection of experimental and computational immunology to generate, analyze, and integrate high-dimensional datasets such as spectral flow cytometry and transcriptomics. Responsibilities include designing systems biology studies, building computational pipelines, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and mentoring students.
What you'll do
- Design and execute systems immunology studies utilizing high-dimensional immune profiling and transcriptomic techniques.
- Process, generate, and analyze multiparameter and spectral flow cytometry data to identify immune cell populations and cellular states.
- Examine bulk and single-cell transcriptomic datasets and integrate them with flow cytometry and clinical phenotypes.
- Develop and deploy computational pipelines and analytical workflows for large biological datasets.
- Apply statistical and machine-learning methodologies to identify immune signatures and disease severity pathways.
- Collaborate with team members to formulate hypotheses, interpret experimental results, and validate computational findings.
- Contribute actively to scientific writing, manuscript preparation, grant applications, and conference presentations.
- Mentor junior students and contribute to an interdisciplinary research laboratory environment.
