PhD: Alphavirus Interplay with Host Lipid Homeostasis in CNS Organoids
Investigate alphavirus pathogenesis and lipid metabolic reprogramming using human CNS organoid models.
Best for:Best for life science graduates with a strong background in molecular virology, cell biology, or stem cell models.
Overview
This PhD position is part of the MERIT (Metabolic Reprogramming in viral pathogenesis) EU-funded Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions training programme, coordinated by researchers at the Medical University of Innsbruck. The project focuses on understanding how alphaviruses interact with host lipid homeostasis within central nervous system organoids. The successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge virology and metabolism research, employ advanced stem cell and organoid models, and collaborate within an international network. Applicants are expected to drive independent research, contribute to collaborative scientific publications, and participate in network training activities.
What you'll do
- Culture and maintain human central nervous system organoids for viral infection experiments.
- Investigate the mechanisms of alphavirus-induced metabolic reprogramming and lipid alterations.
- Perform molecular biology assays including RT-qPCR, Western blotting, and immunofluorescence microscopy.
- Analyze complex multi-omics or lipidomics datasets related to host-pathogen interactions.
- Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed scientific journals and present findings at international conferences.
- Engage actively in the training events, workshops, and secondments organized by the MERIT consortium.
