PhD Position in EU Doctoral Network PANDORA for AMD Drug Optimization
Join an EU-funded doctoral network to develop ultra-high resolution multimodality imaging systems for Age-Related Macular Degeneration research.
Best for:Best for aspiring researchers with a background in applied physics, optics, or materials engineering seeking a funded PhD within an EU network.
Overview
Kymatonics in Heraklion, Greece, is seeking a motivated PhD student to contribute to the MSCA Doctoral Network PANDORA, focusing on pathomechanisms and novel drug optimization for Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). The successful candidate will advance the resolution, sensitivity, and adaptability of an existing hybrid microscope by integrating proprietary wavefront shaping technology (Wavelens) for precision illumination control. This optical development supports parallel therapeutic and diagnostic research efforts in collaboration with European partners and the Foundation for Research and Technology (FORTH). The doctoral candidate will engage in cutting-edge biophotonics research, participate in international secondments, and validate system performance using live biological models.
What you'll do
- Design and integrate the Wavelens system into an existing hybrid microscope for precision illumination control across multiple modalities.
- Advance the optical setup to achieve sub-diffraction resolution in biological tissues.
- Validate microscope performance through live imaging of molecular biomarkers associated with Age-Related Macular Degeneration.
- Collaborate with partner institutions such as FORTH on parallel diagnostic and therapeutic research efforts.
- Participate in international secondments and lab exchanges with European network partners.
