Overview

The European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) is offering a PhD position focused on 4D (3D + time) synchrotron diffraction imaging of grain growth in polycrystalline metals. Working within the 4DGG project, the successful candidate will utilize pink-beam topotomography at beamline ID03 to observe grain boundary migration in aluminum, iron, and nickel. This research aims to provide quantitative data to improve full-field grain growth models by correlating boundary velocity with curvature and elastic strain. The student will be enrolled at the Université Grenoble Alpes and will collaborate with partners at INSA Lyon and Mines Paris.
