PhD Researcher in Pathological Anatomy and Molecular Pathology
Join a competitive research project on tumour biology, precision medicine, and AI-driven pathology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto.
Best for:Best for PhD holders with expertise in translational oncology, molecular pathology, and digital pathology, seeking to contribute to precision medicine research in tumour biology.
Overview
This position offers a PhD-equivalent role as an Assistant Researcher within the HEALTH-UNORTE II project, focusing on translational research in oncology. Based at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP), the successful candidate will conduct research on tumour biology, molecular pathology, and the tumour microenvironment, particularly in solid tumours like breast and colorectal cancer. The role involves histopathological and molecular characterisation, AI-driven image analysis, and the development of prognostic biomarkers. The project is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and aims to advance personalised medicine through integrated approaches. The position is ideal for researchers with expertise in translational oncology, molecular pathology, and digital pathology techniques.
What you'll do
- Conduct research on tumour biology, molecular pathology, and the tumour microenvironment in solid tumours, including breast and colorectal cancer.
- Perform histopathological, molecular, and spatial characterisation of tumours using immunohistochemistry, multiplex immunofluorescence, and digital pathology techniques.
- Collaborate in the creation, validation, and exploitation of sample collections from Tumour Biobanks, ensuring quality and representativeness.
- Develop, train, and validate digital analysis methodologies and AI algorithms for biomarker recognition, quantification, and spatial mapping in histological images.
- Integrate clinical, histopathological, and molecular data to identify prognostic and predictive biomarkers for therapeutic response.
- Coordinate with pathology teams to validate AI-generated results, ensuring reproducibility and correlation with clinical and prognostic variables.
- Contribute to the development of prognostic and therapeutic stratification models for personalised medicine.
- Prepare scientific reports, funding applications, and disseminate research findings through publications and open-access repositories.
