Graduate Research Assistantship in Critical Minerals & Marine Geochemistry
Investigate critical minerals and trace elements in the Orca Basin through marine geochemistry.
Best for:Best for prospective graduate students in chemistry, oceanography, or geosciences with an interest in marine geochemistry and analytical research.
Overview
The Radioisotope Geochemistry Lab at the University of Southern Mississippi is inviting applications for a graduate research assistantship leading to an MS or PhD in Marine Science, starting in January 2027. The selected student will examine the distribution, transport, and biogeochemical cycling of critical minerals and trace elements within the hypersaline and anoxic environment of the Orca Basin. Responsibilities include interdisciplinary research combining geochemical analysis, radioisotope tracers, and oceanographic fieldwork. Applicants are expected to engage in laboratory work, data interpretation, manuscript drafting, and scientific collaboration.
