PhD Candidate in Structural Integrity and Life Assessment of Materials for Hydrogen Applications
Join a research team at NTNU to advance structural integrity modeling for metallic materials in hydrogen energy systems.
Best for:Best for candidates with a strong background in materials science or mechanical engineering, experience in mechanical testing, and proficiency in Python or Matlab.
Overview
The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is seeking a motivated PhD candidate to join the FME HYDROGENi center. This research role focuses on the structural integrity and service life prediction of metallic materials essential for the transition to a sustainable hydrogen economy. The successful applicant will develop predictive frameworks by integrating experimental testing with computational simulation approaches. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to address technical gaps in material failure mechanisms, contributing to Norway's 2030 and 2050 hydrogen roadmap targets.
What you'll do
- Complete the doctoral education programme and defend a PhD thesis.
- Conduct high-quality research on the structural integrity of metallic materials for hydrogen applications.
- Develop predictive frameworks for material integrity using experimental and simulation methods.
- Collaborate with supervisors, colleagues, and industrial partners within the research area.
- Write and publish scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals.
- Present research findings at national and international conferences.
