PhD Position in Nuclear Physics: Investigating the Gluon Content of the Pion
Explore the gluon structure of the pion using CLAS12 data and the Sullivan process at CEA Paris-Saclay.
Best for:Best for master's graduates in physics with a strong background in nuclear or particle physics and data analysis skills.
Overview
This PhD position at CEA Paris-Saclay's Nucleon Structure Laboratory (LSN) focuses on investigating the poorly understood gluon content of the pion to better understand Quantum Chromodynamics. The selected candidate will analyze experimental data from the CLAS12 experiment at Jefferson Lab, aiming to isolate the Sullivan process near threshold and extract pion gluon gravitational form factors. The work involves particle identification, event reconstruction, background suppression, and the development of a dedicated event generator. Additionally, the project includes conducting feasibility studies for future measurements at the Electron-Ion Collider.
What you'll do
- Analyze existing experimental data collected by the CLAS12 experiment at Jefferson Lab.
- Investigate exclusive phi-meson production near threshold to isolate the Sullivan process.
- Evaluate and extract the pion's gluon gravitational form factors related to mass and pressure distributions.
- Perform particle identification, event reconstruction, and background suppression tasks.
- Develop and maintain a dedicated event generator for simulation studies.
- Conduct feasibility studies for future experimental measurements at the Electron-Ion Collider.
