PhD in Organic Chemistry: Synthesis of C-(Imino)glycosyl Amino Acid Derivatives
Develop novel glycomimetic synthetic methodologies for medicinal chemistry applications via silyl-α-nitromethyl groups.
Best for:Best for organic chemists with a strong background in synthesis, separation techniques, and spectroscopy.
Overview
This PhD position focuses on organic synthesis methodology and medicinal chemistry at the Institute of Organic and Analytical Chemistry (ICOA) within the University of Orléans. The research project investigates the silyl-α-nitromethyl group to synthesize C-(imino)glycosyl β-amino acid derivatives using metallo-ketene imines (N-MKI). Funded by the ANR (SILYSUGAR 2026), the work involves close collaboration with the IC2MP team in Poitiers. The successful candidate will design novel chiral motifs to expand the chemical space of glycomimetic compounds with diagnostic and therapeutic potential.
What you'll do
- Design and execute multi-step organic synthesis pathways to prepare novel C-(imino)glycosyl derivatives
- Investigate the ambiphilic reactivity of silylated nitronates and metallo-ketene imines
- Purify and characterize synthesized compounds using advanced spectroscopic and separation techniques
- Collaborate closely with partner research teams on biological and conformational evaluations
- Analyze experimental data, maintain detailed laboratory records, and present findings at scientific meetings
