Doctoral Student in Quantum Technology with Superconducting Circuits
Join Chalmers’ Quantum Technology Laboratory to develop superconducting circuits for quantum experiments with levitated microparticles.
Best for:Best for physics or engineering graduates with a passion for quantum technology, superconducting circuits, and experimental research who seek a fully funded PhD opportunity in an interdisciplinary and collaborative setting.
Overview
This fully funded PhD position at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, focuses on advancing quantum technology by exploring quantum states in levitated microparticles. The project, led by Prof. Witlef Wieczorek’s group, aims to design and fabricate superconducting quantum circuits that couple efficiently to the motion of these particles. The successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge experiments, simulate and fabricate devices, and contribute to breakthroughs in quantum sensing and computing. The position offers access to world-class nanofabrication facilities and a vibrant international research environment. Applicants must hold a master’s degree in physics, applied physics, or a related field and demonstrate strong English communication skills.
What you'll do
- Design, simulate, and fabricate superconducting quantum circuit devices for coupling to levitated microparticles.
- Conduct cutting-edge experiments to explore quantum states in the center-of-mass motion of levitated microparticles.
- Develop scientific concepts and communicate research findings both verbally and in writing.
- Enroll in advanced-level courses within the Graduate School of Microtechnology and Nanoscience.
- Perform teaching duties at the undergraduate level or other tasks corresponding to 20% of working hours.
- Collaborate with the Wieczorek Group and Quantum Technology Laboratory to advance quantum technology research.
Requirements
Degree required: Master's degree (120 credits or equivalent) in Physics, Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, Nanotechnology, or a related field. For applicants with degrees earned outside Sweden, a 4-year Bachelor’s degree is accepted.
Degree offered: PhD
