PhD Position in Organic Chemistry: C-N Bond Activation and Deaminative Elaboration
Explore novel C-N and C-X bond activation methods for advanced organic synthesis at the University of the Basque Country.
Best for:Best for chemistry graduates with a strong background in organic synthesis and a keen interest in reaction methodology.
Overview
The University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) offers a funded PhD position focused on developing synthetic methods for C-N single bond cleavage and deaminative functionalization. The research investigates C-N bond weakening via C(sp)-type acceptor reagents and the interception of carbenium intermediates with nucleophiles. The candidate will work in Donostia-San Sebastian to establish new synthetic paradigms for converting simple amine substrates into complex molecules. Applicants are expected to conduct rigorous laboratory experimentation, analyze complex chemical data, and contribute to scientific publications.
What you'll do
- Design and execute multi-step organic synthesis pathways targeting amine and related C-X derivatives.
- Investigate C-N bond weakening mechanisms using C(sp)-type acceptor reagents and nucleophiles.
- Optimize reaction conditions and explore the scope and limitations of new deaminative transformations.
- Analyze chemical compounds using standard spectroscopic and analytical techniques such as NMR and MS.
- Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed scientific journals and present findings at academic conferences.
