Doctoral Student in Physics: Topoelectronic Quantum Devices
Join Lund University as a doctoral student to research topoelectronic quantum devices and anyonic excitations in 2D materials.
Best for:Best for physics graduates with a strong background in quantum physics, nanofabrication, and low-temperature experimental techniques.
Overview
Lund University invites applications for a 4-year full-time doctoral position at the Division of Solid-State Physics, within the NanoLund research center. The project focuses on the DC characterization and microwave-frequency investigation of anyonic excitations in graphene-based quantum devices. The candidate will fabricate ultrahigh-quality van der Waals heterostructures in the Lund Nano Lab and perform low-temperature electronic and microwave measurements. Responsibilities include building dilution refrigerator infrastructure, running transport measurements, analyzing results, and publishing scientific papers. The successful applicant will be enrolled in the PhD program and receive training in independent research, problem-solving, and scientific communication.
What you'll do
- Fabricate nanodevices using cleanroom facilities at the Lund Nano Lab.
- Conduct transport and high-frequency microwave measurements and develop measurement scripts.
- Analyze experimental data to evaluate device performance and design next-generation hardware.
- Write peer-reviewed scientific articles and present findings at international conferences.
- Maintain, service, and develop laboratory equipment, including the installation of a dilution refrigerator.
- Participate in departmental teaching and related tasks for up to twenty percent of working hours.
Requirements
Degree required: Second-cycle qualification, or at least 240 higher education credits with 60 credits at the second cycle, or equivalent knowledge.
Degree offered: PhD
Language: English; very good written and spoken proficiency required.
Instruction: English
- Solid understanding of quantum physics principles.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and tackle complex problems.
- Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
- Good collaborative and interpersonal skills.
