Overview

The International PhD Programme in Translational Biomedicine (TransMed) at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz addresses a critical gap in biomedical research by training doctoral candidates to excel in both basic and patient-oriented research. Established in 2013, TransMed integrates four faculties—Medical Centre, Biology, Chemistry/Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Social Sciences—to foster interdisciplinary research across three key areas: Immunotherapy, Translational Neurosciences, and Translational Vascular Biology. This programme offers a flexible curriculum, international collaboration opportunities, and structured mentorship to prepare future leaders in academia, industry, and clinical research. Applicants engage in cutting-edge translational research while benefiting from a supportive network spanning pre-doctoral, doctoral, and post-doctoral phases.
