Translational Radioligand Development Scientist
Join the Nirschl and Kolb labs to develop novel PET imaging tracers for neurodegenerative diseases.
Best for:Best for experienced scientists with a background in protein biochemistry, molecular imaging, and tissue-based assay development.
Overview
The Nirschl and Kolb laboratories at the University of Wisconsin-Madison are seeking a Scientist to advance the discovery and development of PET imaging tracers. This role focuses on targeting pathological protein aggregates associated with neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and ALS. The successful candidate will lead experimental efforts including tissue-based assays, radioligand binding studies, and molecular interaction analysis. This position is integral to multi-institutional collaborations aimed at improving early diagnosis and therapeutic development for patients.
What you'll do
- Design and execute custom tissue-based assays, including autoradiography and radioligand binding studies.
- Perform biochemical extraction and purification of pathological proteins from brain tissue samples.
- Conduct Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) experiments to quantify molecular interactions.
- Analyze experimental data to inform Structure-Activity Relationship (SAR) and accelerate hit-to-lead development.
- Assist in the preparation of grant applications and intellectual property documentation.
- Manage laboratory instruments and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to represent the research program.
Requirements
Degree required: PhD in bioanalytical science, biochemistry, molecular biology, medical physics, or a related field.
Language: English
Instruction: English
- Minimum of 2 years of post-doctoral or equivalent industry experience.
- Expertise in tissue homogenization and biochemical protein extraction.
- Proficiency in radioligand binding and competitive displacement assays.
- Experience with histopathological techniques and immunostaining.
