Postdoctoral Researcher in Photomemristor Arrays for Optogenetic-Neuromorphic Interfaces
Develop photomemristor arrays for bio-machine hybrid systems at Aalto University’s Nanomagnetism and Spintronics Group.
Best for:Best for postdoctoral researchers with a PhD in physics, materials science, or electrical engineering, specializing in nanofabrication, optoelectronics, and neuromorphic systems.
Overview
This postdoctoral position at Aalto University focuses on advancing photomemristor arrays for interfacing biological neurons with neuromorphic electronic devices. The project, funded by the Research Council of Finland and in collaboration with the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, aims to create photoresponsive materials and device structures that enable closed-loop processing of neuronal signals. The successful candidate will work in Prof. Sebastiaan van Dijken’s lab, leveraging advanced nanofabrication and characterization tools in Aalto’s OtaNano infrastructure. The role emphasizes interdisciplinary research at the intersection of materials science, electrical engineering, and neuroscience, with a strong emphasis on high-impact publication and international collaboration.
What you'll do
- Design and fabricate photomemristor arrays with tailored photoresponsivity and biocompatibility for interfacing with biological neurons.
- Investigate and optimize material candidates and device structures for high-performance optoelectronic applications.
- Integrate selected photomemristor arrays into bio-hybrid systems to enable closed-loop processing of neuronal signals.
- Conduct advanced characterization of fabricated devices using state-of-the-art nanofabrication and microscopy tools in Aalto’s OtaNano infrastructure.
- Collaborate with researchers at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, to advance the project’s interdisciplinary goals.
- Publish findings in high-impact scientific journals and present research at international conferences.
- Contribute to the group’s research culture by engaging in peer reviews, mentoring, and knowledge-sharing activities.
