PhD Studentship in Cardio-Renal Diseases and Genetic Determinants
Investigate genetic and therapeutic determinants of adverse drug reactions in cardiometabolic diseases using health data science.
Best for:Best for aspiring health data scientists and biomedical researchers with a strong background in genomics and clinical analytics.
Overview
The University of Exeter invites applications for a four-year interdisciplinary PhD studentship focusing on the genetic and therapeutic drivers of adverse drug reactions in cardio-Renal diseases. Running as part of the GW4 BioMed3 MRC Doctoral Landscape Programme, the project combines health data science with clinical analytics to evaluate treatments like SGLT2 inhibitors and DOACs. The successful candidate will leverage large population cohorts, such as the UK Biobank and Our Future Health, to inform precision medicine and clinical guidance. Comprehensive research training, career development support, and collaboration within the Exeter AGE Group are core components of this studentship.
What you'll do
- Analyze large-scale linked genomic and clinical records from multi-million person cohorts including UK Biobank and Our Future Health.
- Investigate how genetic variations, prescribing patterns, and patient traits affect treatment responses and drug safety.
- Examine cutting-edge cardiometabolic therapies such as SGLT2 inhibitors and DOACs to prevent adverse outcomes like kidney injury and falls.
- Participate in structured research training, professional development programs, and collaborative activities within the GW4 BioMed3 network.
- Translate data-driven findings into insights that can inform NHS clinical guidance and precision medicine practices.
