PhD Position in Liquid Fuel Flame Dynamics and High-Pressure Injection
Investigate high-pressure liquid fuel flame dynamics and stability using advanced optical diagnostics at EM2C Laboratory.
Best for:Best for engineering graduates with a strong background in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and experimental combustion diagnostics.
Overview
The EM2C Laboratory at CentraleSupélec and Université Paris-Saclay offers a funded doctoral position focused on the experimental investigation of flame dynamics within a high-pressure multi-point injection test rig (BIMER HP). The successful candidate will characterize the operational envelope of the new bench, analyze flame stabilization under elevated pressures, and examine thermoacoustic instabilities. The research involves deploying advanced high-speed optical diagnostics to capture velocity fields, fuel sprays, flame fronts, and acoustic behaviors. The doctoral student will be enrolled in the SMEMAG graduate school and supported by leading researchers in combustion science.
What you'll do
- Conduct experimental investigations on the BIMER HP high-pressure multi-point injection test bench to analyze flame stability and combustion dynamics.
- Implement high-speed optical diagnostic techniques to measure velocity fields, liquid fuel sprays, flame front positions, and acoustic interactions.
- Characterize the operational envelope of the new experimental bench, determining startup, power-ramp, and steady-state procedures across varying pressures.
- Identify and analyze combustion instabilities, transient phenomena, and potential bistable flame structures.
- Process and analyze complex time-series measurement data using advanced post-processing tools such as dynamic mode decomposition and time-frequency representations.
- Contribute to low-order system modeling, potentially utilizing Helmholtz solvers or acoustic network tools.
