Research Associate on Pinching Antenna Systems
Join a pioneering project developing flexible antenna systems to revolutionize wireless network design and spectral efficiency.
Best for:Best for researchers with a strong background in wireless communications, antenna design, and signal processing algorithms.
Overview
The University of Manchester is seeking a Research Associate to contribute to the EPSRC-funded 'Pinching Antenna Systems' (PASS) project. This role involves developing theoretical frameworks and practical transceiver designs to advance the technology readiness of flexible-antenna systems for commercial use. The successful candidate will work within the Communications and Signal Processing research group, collaborating with the University of Essex and industrial partners. The project aims to optimize energy and spectral efficiency through innovative dielectric waveguide mechanisms, with specific focus on NOMA and ISAC applications.
What you'll do
- Characterize the fundamental communication theory underlying Pinching Antenna Systems (PASS).
- Design and implement spectrally efficient, low-overhead channel estimation algorithms.
- Develop sophisticated transceiver architectures to maximize the performance potential of PASS.
- Investigate the integration of PASS within NOMA and ISAC application frameworks.
- Collaborate effectively with academic partners at the University of Essex and industrial stakeholders.
- Contribute to the advancement of technology readiness levels for commercial adoption.
Requirements
Degree required: PhD in Electrical Engineering, Wireless Communications, or a closely related field.
Language: English proficiency required for research and collaboration.
Instruction: English
Publications: Evidence of high-quality research output in relevant peer-reviewed venues.
- Strong theoretical understanding of wireless communication systems.
- Proven experience in antenna design and propagation modeling.
- Proficiency in developing signal processing algorithms for communication networks.
- Ability to conduct independent research and contribute to high-quality publications.
