Assistant Research Scientist - Li Lab
Investigate metabolic and intracellular signaling mechanisms of A-FABP and E-FABP in disease models.
Best for:Best for experienced postdoctoral researchers in immunology or cancer biology with strong skills in molecular biology, flow cytometry, and animal models.
Overview
The Department of Pathology at The University of Iowa invites applications for an Assistant Research Scientist position within the Li Lab. The successful candidate will investigate how A-FABP and E-FABP regulate cell metabolism and intracellular signaling pathways using models of diseases such as obesity, cancer, and psoriasis. Responsibilities include designing and executing experiments, managing laboratory protocols, and mentoring students, technicians, and postdoctoral fellows. Candidates are expected to possess a strong background in immunology or cancer biology alongside substantial experimental expertise.
What you'll do
- Perform cell culture procedures for various cell lines and primary immune cells, including establishing stable gene expression or knockout lines via CRISPR techniques
- Prepare single-cell suspensions from tissues and maintain mouse colonies including genotyping
- Execute advanced molecular and biochemical techniques such as real-time PCR, western blotting, RNAi, ELISA, and immunofluorescence staining
- Generate, isolate, and purify antibodies for experimental use
- Prepare, stain, and analyze multi-color flow cytometry samples to characterize immune cells
- Troubleshoot experimental procedures and adapt protocols as necessary to ensure high-quality data generation
- Train and collaborate with laboratory personnel, including students, technicians, and postdoctoral fellows
