PhD in Supramolecular Interactions in Organic Mixed Ionic-Electronic Conductors
Unravel the molecular-scale mechanisms of organic mixed ionic-electronic conductors for next-generation bioelectronics and neuromorphic computing.
Best for:Best for experimental researchers with a background in chemistry, physics, or materials science who are passionate about spectroscopy and functional material characterization.
Overview
This four-year PhD position is offered by the Optoelectronic Mixed Conductors group within the Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry at Eindhoven University of Technology. The successful candidate will investigate how intermolecular interactions and supramolecular morphology govern the functionality of organic mixed ionic-electronic conductors using advanced operando characterization techniques. The research combines aspects of supramolecular chemistry and electrochemistry to establish a mechanistic framework linking doping dynamics to macroscopic device performance. The candidate will work in an interdisciplinary environment and collaborate with internal and external research networks.
What you'll do
- Develop novel characterization methods and experimental setups to probe intermolecular interactions during operational states of organic mixed ionic-electronic conductors.
- Perform spectroelectrochemistry experiments to track dynamic spectral signatures of molecular packing and supramolecular organization changes during electrochemical doping.
- Analyze how supramolecular packing influences doping efficiency, dynamics, and device-relevant properties across various supramolecular building blocks.
- Formulate a mechanistic framework describing the bidirectional interplay between OMIEC doping and supramolecular interactions.
- Collaborate with other researchers to design switchable supramolecular OMIEC systems targeted at in-material computing applications.
- Contribute to teaching and the supervision of students, allocating up to 15% of working time to academic education tasks.
