Master of Science in Geodetic Engineering
A specialized English-taught master’s programme in geospatial technologies, robotics, and data-driven Earth system science at the University of Bonn.
Best for:Best for graduates with a BSc in Geodesy, Geoinformation, or related STEM fields seeking advanced training in geospatial technologies, data analysis, and robotics with a focus on real-world applications.
Overview
The Master of Science in Geodetic Engineering at the University of Bonn is a four-semester programme designed for graduates with a Bachelor’s in Geodesy, Geoinformation, or related fields such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Electrical Engineering. Fully taught in English, the programme offers three specialized profiles—Mobile Sensing and Robotics, Geodetic Earth System Science and Data Analysis, and Geoinformation and Spatial Development—allowing students to tailor their studies to their interests. Participants engage in cutting-edge research projects, develop advanced geospatial skills, and complete a Master’s thesis in their chosen field. The curriculum blends mandatory modules (e.g., coordinate systems, GNSS, statistics) with elective modules, ensuring a balance between foundational knowledge and specialized expertise. Graduates gain qualifications for PhD studies or careers in geospatial industries, research, or public sector roles.
What you'll do
- Complete mandatory modules covering foundational topics such as coordinate systems, GNSS, statistics, and geoinformation systems to build a strong technical foundation.
- Select a major and minor profile from Mobile Sensing and Robotics, Geodetic Earth System Science and Data Analysis, or Geoinformation and Spatial Development to specialize in a specific research area.
- Engage in project modules that prepare you for independent research, focusing on current geospatial challenges and aligning with your chosen major profile.
- Conduct and submit a Master’s thesis (30 CP) under academic supervision, demonstrating advanced research skills and expertise in your selected field.
- Participate in current research projects and collaborate with international guest lecturers to gain exposure to global geospatial advancements.
- Develop practical skills in geodetic measurement technology, spatial databases, and geoinformation systems through hands-on coursework and projects.
