Overview

This postdoctoral position at the Australian National University (ANU) focuses on passive-seismic imaging of the Earth’s upper mantle beneath Western Australia’s WA-Array. The successful candidate will contribute to innovative research using anisotropic receiver functions and S-wave receiver functions to study key discontinuities like the Lithosphere-Asthenosphere Boundary. Based in the Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES), a globally ranked institution for geophysics, the role offers collaboration with world-class experts in seismology, geodynamics, and rock/mineral physics. The position is contingent on external funding until June 30, 2030, and targets early-career researchers with a PhD in observational seismology or a related field.

What you'll do

  • Conduct passive-seismic imaging of the Earth’s upper mantle using advanced techniques like anisotropic receiver functions and S-wave receiver functions.
  • Process and analyze large-scale seismic data from the WA-Array, a continental-scale seismic network covering Western Australia.
  • Develop and apply innovative methods to study upper mantle discontinuities, including the Lithosphere-Asthenosphere Boundary.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of seismologists, geophysicists, and geodynamicists to advance research in observational seismology.
  • Present research findings at conferences and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Contribute to the development of new computational and analytical tools for seismic data processing.
