PhD Position: Controlling transposable elements
Investigate small RNA pathways and germ granule biology in molecular biology.
Best for:Best for ambitious life sciences graduates with a master's degree and a strong interest in molecular genetics or RNA biology.
Overview
The International PhD Programme in Mainz, Germany, offers a fully funded doctoral position within René Ketting's research group at the Institute of Molecular Biology. The selected candidate will examine the regulation of transposable elements, small non-coding RNA pathways, and phase separation processes in germ cells using C. elegans and cutting-edge genomics. The role involves interdisciplinary collaboration, advanced microscopy, and genetic screening to understand gene regulation and related neurological conditions. The successful applicant is expected to bring enthusiasm, dedication, and an interactive personality to a diverse international scientific community.
What you'll do
- Design and execute molecular biology and genetics experiments investigating small RNA pathways and transposable elements.
- Perform genomics analyses, including short-read and direct RNA sequencing, to identify target loci and genomic features.
- Utilize advanced microscopy and biochemistry techniques to study the properties and protein recruitment of germ granules.
- Apply genome editing tools such as CRISPR-Cas for functional characterization of genetic factors.
- Collaborate with internal and external research partners on interdisciplinary structure determination and physics-based studies.
- Present research findings at internal meetings and international scientific conferences.
- Contribute to writing scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
