MSCA PhD Position in High-Precision Laser Material Removal for Advanced Materials
Explore cutting-edge fs laser micromachining of ceramics for high-performance applications in a fully funded MSCA PhD programme.
Best for:Best for candidates with a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or Photonics, interested in laser-based material processing and advanced manufacturing techniques.
Overview
This fully funded MSCA PhD position at KU Leuven focuses on developing high-precision, crack-free femtosecond (fs) laser material removal techniques for advanced materials, particularly ceramics. The project, part of the TURBO-IMPACT consortium, integrates process modelling and 3D texturing to enhance material performance. Applicants will engage in interdisciplinary research, with opportunities for secondments in Switzerland, Germany, Italy, and Belgium. The role is ideal for candidates with a strong background in mechanical engineering, materials science, or photonics, seeking to contribute to next-generation manufacturing processes.
What you'll do
- Develop and optimize high-precision fs laser micromachining processes for crack-free material removal in advanced ceramics.
- Conduct experimental and computational research to model laser-material interactions and 3D texturing techniques.
- Collaborate with international partners during secondments in Switzerland, Germany, Italy, and Belgium.
- Publish research findings in high-impact journals and present results at international conferences.
- Contribute to the development of novel manufacturing techniques for high-performance materials.
- Participate in project meetings, workshops, and consortium activities within the TURBO-IMPACT programme.
